Ahead of National Ice Cream Day on Sunday, Minneapolis-based Periscope is launching its own custom-designed ice cream flavor, in a partnership with local scoop shop Izzy’s. “Love Potion No. 921” is named for the agency’s street address and references its tagline: “Do Things People Love.”


The flavor is blood orange and pomegranate, with a bit of ginger, to reflect the agency’s new logo and colors–orange, pink, white and gray. New offices in India and China suggested the pomegranate and ginger, both local flavors, which are symbolic of love in many cultures.

After brainstorming flavors and flavor combinations, a team from Periscope worked with Izzy’s to get food design feedback. Flavor testing quickly eliminated risky combos that didn’t pan out, like chocolate, red wine and oysters. Employees gave the final flavor a name and designed the packaging, and Periscope’s P4 Studios shot the food photography images.

“Love Potion No. 921” is part of a much larger rebranding for the entire agency this summer, which includes building renovations and a new website, in addition to the new logo and colors.
