New York-based independent advertising agency BARKER announced today that it has been named agency of record for Sunsweet Growers Inc., an iconic prune cooperative based in Yuba City, CA. The agency won the account after a robust formal review process. BARKER’s AOR responsibilities will include leading strategy, creative and social media across the Sunsweet brand portfolio of products in the U.S.
BARKER is launching work for the 100-year-old brand, which begins with a 30-second TV spot, airing today. The spot can be viewed and downloaded here. The ad was inspired by the connection between Sunsweet’s brand promise of helping consumers feel good, the benefits of Sunsweet’s Amaz!n™ Prunes and the rise of proactive daily health and wellness routines.
“BARKER’s approach during the pitch process showcased a variety of appealing attributes, ultimately their final pitch really aligned the brand promise and elevated our position. Quickly after being awarded the business they produced a great brand campaign, which provided further confidence that we made the right decision,” says Jeff McLemore, Vice President of Brand Marketing at Sunsweet.
The new spot features an original song written by BARKER’s Founder and Chief Idea Officer, John Barker. The music was recorded by a group of independent Nashville-based musicians who recorded the song with an Americana-driven sound, to keep it authentic to Sunsweet’s heritage.
“We knew we needed one big idea that was scalable and worked hard to leverage Sunsweet’s feel good brand platform. As the right data driven insights bubbled up, we started to see a thread amongst our target audiences and across multiple generations that informed the message which we feel will resonate with consumers,” said Barker.
